Political Heat

31 July, 2004
By

August heat – certainly something that would be most welcome to rain-drenched Vermonters this summer. Political heat is sure to be turned up on the heels of the RNC convention in NYC. Word is that the RNC is going to launch an unusually heavy ad campaign against Sen. Kerry’s Senate record and give Vietnam a rest. Meanwhile, Kerry seems to have garnered a 4% hike in the polls as a post-convention bump and is experiencing large turn-outs this weekend. Newsweek reports that bump the lowest on record. Likely effected by the veep selection three weeks ago, deflating any buzz on that factor. ABC News is reporting that there is credible, more-than-chatter intelligence that says NYC may be a target by al Qaeda. Along with the amazing efforts of the NYPD and other resources, I have no doubt that fervent prayer for peace is key at this no ordinary time.

Coulter Crosses the Line

26 July, 2004
By

Here is a link to an article by conservative columnist, Ann Coulter. USA Today opted not to publish the story and pulled out of a series of articles that Coulter was to pen from Boston regarding the DNC convention. Judging by the opening paragraph alone, it’s clear why the paper opted to defer her to the (online) World Net Daily.

The Snooze Alarm

26 July, 2004
By

[Ed. note: I don't know the author of the following which is an email that is floating about cyberspace. Figured it was worth a reprint. Looks like most of the historical stuff is on target. Bill] ————————————————————- Subject: WW III This should be an eye opener for the one’s that don’t understand what’s going on in the world today. For the ones who read this and don’t understand, Please re-set the snooze button, go back to sleep, so the ones that are concerned about this country can deal with this problem and get rid of it for ever! One thing for sure is that they want to KILL you, your family and destroy the world as we know it. WORLD WAR THREE Date: Wed, 19 May 2004 05:56:24 -0400 Not very long, but very informative. You have to read the catalogue of events in this brief piece. Then, ask yourself how anyone can take the position that all we have to do is bring our troops home from Iraq, sit back, re-set the snooze alarm, go back to sleep, and no one will ever bother us again. In case you missed it, World War III began in November 1979… that Continue reading →

Sir Elton Is Uncomfortable

17 July, 2004

BBC NEWS Elton attacks ‘censorship’ in US Elton John has said stars are scared to speak out against war in Iraq because of “bullying tactics” used by the US government to hinder free speech. “There’s an atmosphere of fear in America right now that is deadly. Everyone is too career-conscious,” he told New York magazine, Interview. Sir Elton said performers could be “frightened by the current administration’s bullying tactics”, The singer likened the current “fear factor” to McCarthyism in the 1950s. “There was a moment about a year ago when you couldn’t say a word about anything in this country for fear of your career being shot down by people saying you are un-American,” he told the magazine. The singer said things were different in the 1960s. “People like Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, The Beatles and Pete Seeger were constantly writing and talking about what was going on. Backlash “That’s not happening now. As of this spring, there have been virtually no anti-war concerts – or anti-war songs that catch on, for that matter,” he said. He voiced concern that it appeared acceptable to speak out if you were pro-Bush, using the example of country singer Toby Keith, but not Continue reading →

If a dog was a teacher, you’d learn stuff like….

17 July, 2004
By

Okay, this was one of those emails that I tend to just DELETE. For some reason, it seemed like something worth keeping…. It’s been a long week. What can I say? ——————————————————- Subject: If a dog was the teacher you would learn stuff like: If a dog was the teacher you would learn stuff like: When loved ones come home, always run to greet them. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy. When it’s in your best interest, practice obedience Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory. Take naps. Stretch before rising. Run, romp, and play daily. Thrive on attention and let people touch you. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do. On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree. When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body. No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout…run right back and make friends. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. Eat with gusto and Continue reading →
