WV Gazette: Army blasted over soldier’s body armor

Paying for Scars of Battle WV Gazette 1st Lt. William “Eddie” Rebrook IV was injured in battle. The army told Redbrook that he had to reimburse the U.S. Army $700 last week for body armor and other gear damaged after he was seriously wounded by a roadside bomb in Iraq. Hello? Put this on. It is supposed to stop bullets and things. Oh, but if you do get blown up or shot or, for that matter, driven over by a camel, don’t worry, we’ll send you a bill for the damaged armor, okay? The good news is that more than $5,700 were pledged to Rebrook by West Virginia radio listeners and newspaper readers after hearing of his body armor payment to the Army. In yet another gesture of selflessness and generosity, Redbrook will donate the money to an army buddy’s mom who lost her home when Hurricane Katrina struck last summer.
